Welcome to the Basement Lounge. This is the cool relax space. Or we have conversations. We talked about, you know, what's going on in the world old we talked about movies and music and we talked to Comedians and actors and we talked about just everything. Man, we have conversations to show about conversations, and today I'm going to have a conversation with you guys, just kind of about man, the Hell's going on in the world right now? It's crazy. It's absolutely crazy. So, you know, we've been we just got finished doing our gratitude series, which was a lot of fun for me, you know, five shorter for more focused episodes, showing some love, some love and some...

...appreciation to the folks who were supporting those through Patreon and anchor. I want to thank you guys. You know, my mom and Whitney and Mike and and and jody and Joey. It's yeah, it's it's great to have you guys support and or was it good for new support as well? So a lot of things have changed since we did a real proper episode. It was, you know, just a few few weeks ago where, you know, all this coronavirus, not not nonsense, but insanity, broke loose and and has been taken over our lives. I threw my job and considered an essential employee, so I haven't been affected too much. My mom was working from home right now. My brother and sister are both doing school, you know, school via e learning systems at home, and I but it's a chaotic world out there right now. Hopefull you guys are taking care of yourselves, taking care of each other, being smart, staying home, you know, stay you know, stay in hygienic and just being safe and being smart and, you know, don't be an idiot and go out there and hoard toilet paper and Shit. That's just dumb. Don't do that, and I would you ever do that. But yeah, it's crazy. You know, we've seen the film industry effectively shut down, the music industry is pretty much shut down. Our way of life is kind of ad a halt right now and it's been a very eye opening experience, getting to see how the ones around us are dealing with the situation at hand. I can safely say that there are a lot of people who are no longer in my life. Not because they died from covid or anything that, but I've had to remove a lot of people from my life in the last few weeks because it really kind of became clear to me just how toxic they were and how irresponsible and shortsighted they...

...could be in a crisis. I've had to I've had to eliminate some friendships in the last couple of weeks, people who were just unwilling to get past their our own egos and their own, let's call it, let's call it conspiracy theories for the sake of the greater good. And you know, as you go through life, you know relationships change and sometimes you find yourself in a situation where it's just best for your own good to not associate with people anymore, your own mental health. We've been buckling down, though. Hopefully you guys have been enjoying the morning show we started doing so. I've talked a lot about this and I've mentioned it on the Patreon a few times. I really love like old school morning radio, where it's a lot of fun and a lot of nonsense, and so I had wanted to roll out a show like that for a long time, like a daily, not early morning show, but yeah, like a mid morning, midday show, like ten or eleven am. And with everybody being stuck at home right now, I figured I would try to create something that people could enjoy while they're looking for something to do at home. So we started doing the morning show. We do it live on twitch. We experimented with a few different ways that we would do the live show. We thought about doing it through Youtube, but doing it through facebook, and then my buddy vents from high school actually had the idea to set up a twitch dream and we've been streaming on twitch almost every day for the last couple of weeks. Right now, the time you're hearing this, is episode has been recorded days in advance, but I'm in...

...the process of doing some rearranging in the studio, so I haven't done as a stream in a few days. But it's been a fun way from you to do a morning show. That's makes it easy for you guys to be involved. It makes it really easy for you guys to be involved because of the the the chat on the twitch stream and it's just it's a lot of fun and it's a lot it's a way for you guys to listen, to watch or listen however you want to do it, and it's yeah, it's been a lot of fun and I like playing video games and I do have you know, I don't what little going out I was doing. I'm not doing anymore. So I'm spending more time playing video games at the House and now it's all that time that I spend playing left for dead or minecraft or the new doom game. Now I can stream one online through our hus through our basement lounge twitch stream. You guys can enjoy that as well. I'm working on getting it to where I can interact with you guys during the playstation because right now my computer, you know, I play left for dead and minecraft on my computer. So like we might have the camera right there and I can talk back. Whenever I'm playing doom, I don't really get to do that because I have the right right set up for yet, but that's part of the rearranging I'm going to be working on. So but we've been having a lot of fun doing that and it's growing, it's evolving. It's not what I wanted it to be. It's definitely not what I imagined it being right now because I with everything going on with code, the covid quarantine and the fact that I kind of threw it together at the last minute. It's growing and evolving, but we're slowly getting it to be I wanted to be and we're having a lot of fun with it. So so that's what's been going on with that as far as you know, like doing regular conversation interview episodes goes. Still figuring out how to the how best to do that and you know can obviously we've done them in the past. Had somebody call...

...in and those are fine. You know, I've we had it sucks because we had just started integrating the full video system with with this show and having the guests here in the studio. You know, we did the Valentine special with Andrew and Claudia and then we had we had Savannah web on, we had dusty harvey on and those were going great and now I can't be all over to the studio anymore. So it's back to having people do a lot of collins. So I'm working on schedule in some of those and and how we're going to do those. I'm probably going to it's probably going to be shorter episodes. You know, they've been going up to about an hour, hour and a half. They're probably going to start being more like thirty to forty five minutes because one, when you're on the phone with somebody it's just not as personal unless it's a really good topic, and but also just you know, the hour to hour and a half episodes. I know that for a lot of listeners that can be a bit much. It's a lot to get through. So we're going to try to keep them around thirty to forty forty five minutes going forward from here, just so it's a little more easy to digest and it's a little more a little straight and more straight to the point. But we're still going to keep the show going. The show's not going anywhere at all, so you got nothing to worry about there. I'm still doing mixtape radio over at sinnisgate media. That's been a lot of fun. We've also added a new show to sinisgate media called Mike's of the round table. It's kind of like a round tape and it's a round table discussion show that we have with all the different personalities at Sinus gap. It's me and Sean Harrigan and bill and decks and then other people coming in and out and and that's been a lot of fun because it's such a huge, big clash of personalities and we get to have discussions on there that are very real world, very socio political, and I'll cover all kinds of topics. So we've been doing that and that's been a blast as well. I got to call in be a call in guest on Don Smith's show the life week or...

...two ago, so go check that out. That was a such a fun, Fun, our fun episode with Don as always. But you know, I've been gaming a lot more and I'm starting a new DD session here soon, so that's going to be a lot of fun to been playing a lot of game, board games at the House with the family, just doing a lot more family stuff around the house. We're definitely getting stir crazy. I could say that right now. Oh, we're getting stir crazy. You know, it's you know, for me, like I'm lucky enough. I'm the one person in the house who still gets to leave the house every day to go to work. As chaotic as my job is right now, I still get to leave the house and go to work. MOM's working from home. You know, she goes for walks and you know, we'll like leave to go to the grocery shopping but, like the kids are stuck at home. It's tough. So we're doing our best to get by, but we're definitely we're definitely getting a little stir crazy, but it's just kind of situation we're in right now. There's nothing we can really do about it. Is the thing. You know. I know people are frustrated and are ready for this about it, in the grand scheme of things, we haven't been doing this very long. It's only been a couple of weeks now. I will say a couple of weeks was enough for me to finally give in and join ticktock. That something I never thought I'd ever do, but I'm not gonna lie, I've been having some fun with it. I got a few videos up, just goofy Shit, nothing like of any real substance or anything like that, just it's just, you know, it's something for those moments where I really am bored or just have a really quick, short, funny idea for something and I just want to give it a shot. But you know, it's it's just a weird, weird, weird world we live in right now. It's a world where I use tick Tock. But I hope you guys...

...are doing good, like I said, hope you guys are hanging in there and not getting to stir crazy. I hope you're being safe, because it's scary. You know, we can joke about it and say how man, it's so insane, but it's it really is scary and it is a lot to be scared of and and but understand that like that's normal, like it's okay to be scared of what's going on right now. And there's conspiracy theories everywhere and everyone's looking for, you know, the next big hot take and looking for a way to try to seem like they're they're they're smarter or that they can outsmart whatever is going on right now. And this is one of those times where I this is just me Personson. I feel like a lot of that needs to be set aside. Like, I know it's easy to try to politicize what's going on and right now it's a situation where, like it doesn't matter. This this virus doesn't care if you're black, white, man, woman, Democrat, Republican, rich, poor, whatever. This is a time to time where all that shit needs to be set aside and we really need to just be thinking of our neighbors and the people around us. And and you know, this is one of this is one of those times where society really is going to be tested and where, you know, in a a hundred years, people are going to look back on how we reacted and how we handled all of this and we will be judged in retrospect for it. I was talking to a friend of mine, John Rocco, the other day. It's a podcaster and and film film Pundon and and actor out in Los Angeles, and we were talking and he said, you know, it really feels like this quarantine status, is covid nineteen thing is really does feel like it was almost like like it needed to happen, like this...

...was the universe forcing us to slow down, because the world at large, the entire world, had to slow the hell down to combat this thing. You know, because, to kind of quote shoshank redemption, like the world had gone and gotten itself in a big damn hurry, and just the amount of staying inside and slowing down we've done, and just a couple of weeks, we've already seen it make massive, massive differences in the world at large. You know, we've seen, as they've been able to actually like like measure like significant changes to the clost Tut and the to the climb, and not not fullblown climate change, but just to the atmosphere in general and and animal behaviors. It's and you know, they've been able to say like this is actually like us just not doing anything for a a couple of weeks has made a significant effect on the environment as a whole, and that's there's something to be said about that. And yeah, it does suck because this is hurting the economy. There's not a whole lot we can do about that, though, and you know, we will bounce back, as the thing like, I don't think people realize, like, yes, it's sucks right now, but we're going to bounce back from this, where we're at the point right now where we're about to really hit the out we're about to get over the peak of this mountain. I really do feel that. I really do feel like we're approaching. We're approaching like the worst, and then the worst will be over before we know it and then we'll start that will start that real journey back to some semblance of normalcy. But something I've been saying on a lot of shows lately is that we I think we are going to see a paradigm shift in the way our society thinks and acts. I think we're going to see a because we're going to have to. I think. I...

...think it's going to turn out to where people are going to be forced to realize the way we've been doing things isn't working anymore and it's time for a change, and not this is going to be such, but I will say that's me being optimistic. This is going to be. This is going to have to. We're going to see a proof of concept and I feel like if we as a people don't make that paradigm shift, that it will that the recovery is going to take a lot longer. And again, that something that we will be judged for a hundred years from now in the history books, when everybody's looking back and judging US based on how we dealt with things. They'll either be looking back and saying, Hey, they that people came out of this and they turn their shit around and they got their shit together and they did something about this, or they're going to say, man, they came out of this and it was just downhill from there. You know what happened to Rome. Rome had their packs Romana and people have been suggesting for years that Americas hit their packs Romana in this generation. So it remains to be seen. I didn't plan on getting all philosophical about this, I really didn't. But but this is the world we live in right now and I'm staying surprisingly optimistic. I mean, again, it's scary times out there, but I do feel like this is the kind of thing that shapes generations and this is the kind of thing, this is the kind of global experience that will knock a few bolts loose and people's heads, because, frankly, if this doesn't, I don't know what will. But this is the kind of thing that gets people moving and and gets their brains in a in a place where they can say, you know what it really is, it really is time to change, it really is time to for a new approach to things, because we can't let something like this happen again. And something like...

...this only happens once in a lifetime and if we're not careful and we don't learn from it, we can see it happened twice. So that's that's my thoughts on all this. I want to know what yours are, so you know, please, by all means reach out, send me a tweet and me up on facebook. Let us know how you guys are doing. I want to know how everybody's doing. Next week we're going to have jody McDermott call in and we're going to do an episode because there's a lot of you out there right now, like me and like Jodey, who, amidst all this quarantine and covid nineteen fear, are also having to combat mental illness. We're having to combat that stuff along with dealing with all of this, and that can be this is can be really overwhelming. It's been overwhelming for me, that's for sure. So next week we're going to have jody McDermott on and she and I are going to have a conversation about coping with mental illness during a global pandemic, and so, you know, hope you guys tuned in for that.
