Welcome to a new episode of the Basement Lounge. This is the cool relax space where, you know, we like to have some drinks and have some conversations. Today's episode is going to be a little unorthodox. I had a guest booked for this week who canceled the day we were supposed to record and I never heard back from them about rescheduling and was not able to get any filler in for this week. So it's just me. I'm going to be honest. If you caught anything that we streamed live on Wednesday, which wasn't much, and get into that here in a little bit too. Everything for the final five episodes of the season kind of fell apart. So I had booked five dope ass guests for the final five episodes, some of whom they were some of the biggest guests I've ever had on a show. Two of them remain. Three of them canceled rather abruptly. One of whom I mentioned canceled the day we were supposed to record. I'm pretty salty about that, I'm not gonna lie. I had teas that we were going to have Cobra Page from Cobra and the Lotus on the show. Unfortunately, she's going through some health issues right now and won't be able to make the show either. And we had reached and we were going to have Trisia hirschburger on as well, but she's just got a lot of family stuff going on and doesn't have proper childcare right now and so just finding the time to make it happen wasn't really working. So we're going to try and get her in for season two. But we do have two other guests booked for we do have some of the guests book for the rest of this season so coming on the show. I'm pull up going to pull up the the the Google doc that I have right here in front of me to let you know. So for next week's show we're going to have a returning guest. Amy James, a wonderful musician here in Dayton Ohio, is going to be coming on the show. We had her on episode two of this season and she's coming back. It's been almost a full year since we just shy of a year since we had her on the show originally. So it's going to be cool to have her back on because a lot has changed in the time since she's been here. What a year she has had. A lot has changed since the time she was last on the show, so we're going to have her on to talk about her music and how things are going and just the growth she's had since her first time on the show. On July seventeenth we're going to have Steve Morris, who is a director, filmmaker and directing instructor out of Los Angeles, California, also one of the hosts of the cinephiles podcast, is easily the quintessential deep dive film podcast. If you're a film Fan, you want to listen to the cinephiles. It's probably the best movie movie analysis podcast out there that exists. He'll be coming on on Friday...

...the seventeen. We're working on a guest for the week of the twenty four and then our season from one finale, episode fifty will be dropping on Friday July thirty one with our special guest. This is the one we've been waiting on for a long time, the outlaw himself, John Roke, up from the movie Trivia Schmo down. He's an actor, a podcast, a host and producer. We're going to have him on to talk about just just everything under the sun, and so we still got we so we've got a good last few episodes going on for the rest of the season. Trying to book that fourth guest for the week of the twenty four. Will let you guys know about that. We know more, but my chair is so squeaky today and I don't know why, but it has been. It has been a week. I'm not going to lie. This has been one of those weeks where just everything that possibly could have gone wrong with the show and with the live streams has gone wrong, like to the point where i Wednesday afternoon, I was so pissed off and fed up with the cancelations and the technical problems we were having. On Wednesday, like I was so close to having one of those fuck it and just just quitting all together. I was so done with everything and it just it had gotten to that point where I was just I was like, if this is what it's going to be like, I just don't want to do this anymore. It was I started to get to that point that I was at, that I was at with with, you know, season three of Mike talks funny and everything going with even tide where I was just so frustrate with everything. But I'm feeling better now. Excuse me. I apologized for yawning. I am recording this at one o'clock in the morning after work. I'm very tired because I've just I've been so busy trying to get some guest book for this week. I'm recording this at one am the night before it's going to drop, this Thursday night, the Friday morning, because I was trying to see if I could get somebody in at the last minute and it just it wasn't panning out for this week. It was just too short notice. So, but it's been one of those weeks. Wednesday, Wednesday we tried to go live on twitch and for our because I hadn't been able to do a live show in a little while because of my work schedule. So Wednesday I was finally ready to do one and I got up and I was live for about forty five minutes, or at least I thought, until I got a message from Vince Venom, one of my streaming buddies, who came on and said, Dude, you said you were going live, we're still waiting for you. So apparently twitch was having problems that day where they weren't able to get people's feeds out onto the website, even though everything, all my equipment said that I was live. Their website for whatever reason wasn't receiving my video. It was something on their end. So, you know, forty five minutes I talked about everything going on and now I feel like I completely wasted my fucking time. So we went live on facebook after the fact. We did like twenty minutes live on facebook just to kind of get get out what needed to get out. And Excuse me, I'm sorry. So, but I want to talk a little bit about what just kind of the things we announced on on Wednesday and if you're in the discord, if you're in the discord server, I did posted there in the announcements channel. So if you haven't seen that yet, go to the announcements text channel. The basement loungenge discords are going. If you're not in the discourts, are any you'd like to be? Just go down to go down in the description of this episode. There should be a link there or you can reach out to me online and I will I will get it to you. But so here's a breakdown of what we talked about on Wednesday. So we mentioned having all the all these lastminute cancelations for the final episodes of the season one. So right now I'm having to refocus all my attention. I've gotten most of the mostly filled. I need one more slot filled,...

...but I it's the point where I've already pushed back the I've pushed back dates on this show. We were supposed to actually have hit episode fifty a long time ago, a couple weeks well, a couple weeks ago, but I've had to keep pushing episodes back left and right. You know, we missed a lot of episodes and stuff, so I can't push them back into more I've locked in these two final guests, especially our finale. He's got a very you know, John's got a very busy schedule, so locking him in. I cannot move that date back again and I don't want it to not be the finale. So Finale's happening on the thirty one. So but in terms of the real world, I've also got a lot of weird workshifts coming up because it's that time of year where a lot of my co workers are going on vacation. Now, granted with the current status. You know. Of all they're going out of town, but they're taking vacation time, so I'm having to work some weird swing show fift hours to keep us covered, which means there are some nights I'm not getting home until thirty in the morning and I'm still trying to now that I've got these other guests booked, I've got to do my research and do my prep work get a but, believe it or not, I actually do a lot of research and prep work for my guests before they come on. Sometimes, oh good, excuse me again. I'm sorry. Sometimes, you know, depending how the conversation goes, it doesn't work, but I like to have those notes in there just in case. So I'm still doing a lot of research for for a me for once she comes on and I have a potential. I have a couple potentials for that final slot. I'm just waiting for some confirmation. But, with all that being said, for the entire month of July, now that we're into the month of July, by the way, how the fuck did we already make it to July? We're already past the halfway point in two thousand and twenty when? Where the fuck did time go. But with that being said, because of that, for the month of July I'm not going to be doing any more live streams on twitch. Those are going to be getting put on hold for the month of July. They will come back in August and we'll get into that in a sec but just with everything going on for the month of July with work and trying to just finish out the season of the podcast, we just need to I need to just focus on the podcast for right now and getting wrapped up and making sure everything stays booked and, honestly, just kind of being on alert in case anybody else has to cancel the last minute, because at this point it would not would not put it best anybody the way things have been going. Just that's about where my expectations are. So just to make sure that the podcast, which is kind of the main meat of how this whole thing started, we're going to make sure that that that. That's my focus for the time being. So I'm going to put the twitch streams on whole for the month of July. So now we mentioned next to John Roka, is going to be our special guest on the finale, which will be dropping a season one finale. We dropping a Friday July thirty one. I cannot believe we've made it to the end of season one. That that this first season, this first year, fifty episodes, has gone by so quick. So John will be on our finale. The finale will be Friday the thirty one of July, and then after that this podcast is going to take a break, not a long one, just for the month of August and we've before you freak out, don't worry. Like I've done this with every podcast I've had, I usually take a month, sometimes too, off in the summer just to kind of breathe and regroup and and reassess everything and been planned for the future, of which there will be a future. I just am fully planning on doing a season two that's going to premiere in September, but I would just like take the month of August off to recharge and I kind of I'm I plan on making. I have some ideas for some very significant but very fun changes to the podcast just to give it some more longevity and to kind of incorporate a built in contingency in the event of these last minute cancelations from guests which just with the current state of the world seem to be happening more, more and more, and it's so trying to figure out, you know, ways to work around that.

My plan, and you're hearing this here first, is that I'm planning on bringing on a cohost, like a like a like a permanent in like a in in place cohost, someone that I can have to constantly talk with. That way, in the event I have a cancelation, it's not just me talking it because because this is going to be a short episode, but it's not going to be just me talking. I'll have somebody to talk with, we can talk about things, I can have them on the more on the live streams when those come back. But to have a cohost because, again, the whole point of the basement loanuage is to be a place for conversation and if it's just me talking, that's not a conversation, it's being monologing and improvising. And so to be able to have somebody who can hop on, especially right now with everything being done to be a zoom and stream yard, to have somebody who can hop on zoom for half an hour to an hour and just and just, you know, have those conversations over drinks, you know, to have you know you have. They can't be here physically. So I'm looking on bringing on a cohost for the show, but I'd like to take the month of August off to reach out, see who's interested, see who's available, see who I think we'll have the best you know, on my chemistry with me, because that's the thing, as I want somebody that I know I can go back and forth with and who will be available. You know, my work schedule leaves me with a very limited availability for recording. I you know, typically I do all my recordings for the week on Mondays and Tuesdays because I have those days off. So if I can find somebody who's free those days, that would be ideal. But so the podcast will take a season break for the month of August and then we will come back in September. The for now, if we go off current status, the first episode back will be Friday September four. So, but that was so that'll be that and it will be for a couple weeks. But with that being said, once the podcast goes on break for the month of August, don't worry, they're still going to be content. As you guys know we started putting the audio from the twitch streams into the podcast feed. Well, Mike, I thought you said the podcast seas are pausing. Will I they are for the month of July, the month of August. They're going to be coming back and I'm going to be changing how we do the live streams. So when we originally started the basement lounge, the idea wasn't just for to be a place for a conversation. PODCAST, was to be a place for me to experiment with programming. And now that we've expanded things into the twitch live streaming realm and I've been able to play around with programming ideas a bit more, we're going to bring some of those those ideas back to fruition and the first one that we have confirmed, we announce it's on a Wednesday. The first one that's coming back is going to be Mike talks movies. Now Mike talks movies is, you guys know, is a podcast, blog, twitter or whatever you want to call it. That goes back a long way with me and it's something that's kind of I've kind of held onto for a long time. Well, we're bringing it back and Wednesday's on twitch is instead of having every live stream be brunch in the basement and that that's that's nothing. That's a nothing name, that doesn't mean anything, doesn't tell people the shows about. So instead, what we're going to do is we're going to have each show, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, be a themed show with its own name and its own structure, its own format, and Wednesdays are going to be Mike talks movies. Now this is going to be first of all, I plan on making the Wednesday show Mike talks movies two hours. It's going to be a two hour show, not an hour. Two hours because I want the first hour to be me and trying to get a cohost. I want to again hoping for a cohost who can do all the shows. Maybe get a coast just for this show. We'll see, but the idea maybe'd be just me. I don't know, but the idea is for it to be an hour of just diving into movie news, really deep diving into movie news for the first hour, and then the second hour is going to be a deep dive into a film topic, whether it's we know we've done we've done episodes where we spent two hours recasting the XMEN. We did an episode where we talked about where we broke down the DC, the history of DC films, where we talked about best trilogies...

...of all time. And so that's going to be the second hour of Mike talks movies and that's going to be every Wednesday. Now the reason we're doing on Wednesdays. Somebody in the chat we announces had ass like, why don't you do it on Monday? It's because Mike Talks Movies Mondays. It's a literation yet that the reason for that is just because usually by Wednesday most of the movie news has come out that we can talk about. What's happening on Mondays is we're doing the show at eleven am. Hollywood is just waking up at eight am. You know the Threehour time difference. So usually we're not getting like the big news until after the show is ended and then we missed out on covering it. We had to wait till Wednesday. So if we're going to wait till Wednesday anyway, let's just talk about it all at once. is usually by Wednesday bulk of the news that's going to drop for that week has dropped, or at least a good, a good significant chunk of it. There's always going to be times where you're going to miss stuff and that that is what it is. But so Wednesdays Mike talks movies to our show news and deep dive movie topics. That will be our Wednesday live show and of course we're going to take that audio and drop it in the podcast feed later on that day. Mondays and Fridays, I haven't settled on anything yet. I Want Fridays to continue to be the fun, silly Friday fundaid thing we've been doing, where it's people send in videos for me to watch and react to online and they're funny or they're weird or there you know, video game trailers, whatever it might be. I kind of wanted that to remain the same because that's just fun. Monday's I have it decided yet. I've been I've had some people asking me to do a show because I'm a huge metal head and I'm a huge metal fan and I host a music podcast over at the sinisgate. Make sure you guys go check out. Sundscape to media was on my show, mixtape radio. That's the fos asking me to do a heavy metal show, a heavy metal discussion show, kind of like that metal show that used to be on vhone, lended, that was what it little was called. It was called that metal show. Doing one of those or something like that. That's another one that I'd like to have a cohost for, but we'll see. So that's an idea of tossing around. And then season two of the basement lounge will debut in September, like we said, and I'm hoping to have things kind of smoothed out by then. But that is where things are sitting right now. Guys, it has been it has been a rough week. It's been a rough couple of weeks. You know, this time last week I was set with just a a string of backtobat guests for the show, the final five episodes that I was I was on cloud nine and I think I just put out a little too much positive because we all know two thousand and twenty is a year of go fuck yourself, and I think I put out a little too much positivity into the universe because two thousand and twenty was like, Whoa Motherfucker, Whoa, Whoa, whoa. I'm many. I'm going to need you to come down a few, few steps in two thousand and twenty took a big wet shit on my good mood. So that's where I'm at right now. Like I said, it has been a hell of a week. I was on the verge of just quitting, that's how bad this week was. But I'm here, I'm hanging out as I'm doing better. Things are calming down a bit and now my I'm just I'm goal I'm goal focused. I am set in finishing the season, finishing the season strong. I don't want you guys to think that I'm going to be so tired and pissed off that I'm just going to phone it in the rest of the season. That's not how I do things. The rest of this season we're going to finish strong. I can promise you this. The Steve Morris episode and the John Roque episode are going to be worth all of this heartache, because I guarantee those will be two of the best episodes. We do not to, you know, talk down on and on having a me on or whoever else we get on. Not at...

...all, not one bit. But these are two. These are but John and Steve are two guests who are people who I admire, who I look up to, who I respect a John is somebody who, over time, I have come to call a friend, going from somebody that I was just a fan of, just a super fan of, to now he and I are producing content together. If you want to chet by the Bab guys, make sure you go check out the ultimate shmowdown show. This is a fan reaction, review commentary show that I'm producing with John Rocca and Sean Barito for the outlaw nation, for face, on facebook, youtube and it's got its own podcast feed on anchor right now. The ultimate shmodown show. It's it's it's so much fun, everything I love about producing and directing film. I get to have so much fun with this and just run the show and let the hosts do what they're going to. I'm not on the panel, I'm not talking, I'm strictly at a producer and director, but I'm having so much fun producing the show and watching it grow. If you get a chance, if you still haven't checked out the movie Trivia Schmo down, please do. It's a lot of fun. Check out the ultimate Schmo down show and let us be your guide into kind of the deep dive in her workings of how things go. So make sure you guys could do that. But yeah, so having John on is going to be huge for me. He's a guy who I wanted to have on for a long time and as we've gotten closer, as he and I have worked on things together, as he and I have communicated and built, built the a budding friendship, I've been dying to get him on the show. And Steve Morris is, like I said this the cinephiles is easily my favorite podcast right now. It is absolutely my favorite podcast. If you haven't listened to the cinephile, I know I've talked about it on this show before. We haven't listened to the cinephiles, please go check it out, especially if you're a film fan, because it's it's, it is. It is the number one best deep dive film podcast out there. I dare you'd prove me wrong. So having those two, I've I've already I've already got pages of things I want to cover with Steve Morris and I know I probably won't get the half of it, but I'm still looking forward to that interview like you guys wouldn't believe. So I'm you got I cannot wait to do those interviews and share this with you guys, and next week with Amy James is going to be just as awesome again because, like we mentioned, you know, she was on, she was our second guest ever on the show. She was episode two, and having her on now just shy of a year later, like we're like, we're like a couple weeks shy of when she came on the show, to talk about the growth that she has had and the changes she has gone through. I mean just for and I don't even know the half of it, probably just from what I have seen with my own two wise on facebook alone, I can tell you that she has gone through so much and I can't wait to have her on. So thank you, guys, for sitting down with me and and chatting with me and then listening to me kind of vent and rant, because, honestly, I think I just needed this. I needed I needed to come on the microphone by myself and just vent about everything going on, because I love this podcast, I love this show and I love my fan my fans, my listeners. I love you guys so much because you helped keep the show going by listening to the show, by sharing it, by joining the Patreon, if those of you can. If you haven't and you'd like to, just go to patreoncom Basement Lounge pod. But to everybody you know, thank you so much, because I the last when I started to get those feelings of fuck this shit, I'm not going to do this anymore. That was when I stopped looking for a guest for the week. I stopped looking for it when I started to feel like that. I stopped looking for a replacement guests because I knew it was time for me to hop on the Mike and just a vent about this a little bit, because it's been it's been a it's been in my craw for the last couple of days. So I'm glad I got to come on and talk with you guys about this and kind of just unload a bit. I appreciate that. Maybe it,...

...maybe this is a sign that I should bring back the Mike's mind podcast to the feed. I don't know yet. We'll see. I might like that a patreon exclusive. But thank you, guys for listening. We will be back next week with Amy James, a musician from here in Dayton, to talk about her growth from last last year and last time. She was on the show and of course, still forget we've got Steve Morris coming on later this later on this month, and then John Rocco will be finishing out the season. We're almost of the season finale, guys. It's the finish line is within our eyesight. Make sure you guys, follow this on show on all social media, twitter and instagram at tbl underscore pod. Go to our website, Basement Lounge podcom. You can follow me on all social medias at Mike Shay comedy and follow me on Tick Tock at Mike of all Shays.
